The College Editors Guild of the Philippines – National Capital Region applauds the House for finally sealing the impeachment case against Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez, clearing the way for her trial by the Senate for betrayal of public trust after eight straight hours of deliberation, by a vote of 212-46, March 22, 2011.
After the long debate, it is evidently alarming that Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, now Pampanga representative, left immediately after Tupas started his sponsorship speech.
“It is made clear that all complaints under the administration of Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, now Pampanga representative, had been deserted intentionally by Gutierrez to make GMA’s deeds appear clean.” Antonino C. Perdigon Jr, CEGP-NCR chairperson said.
Perdigon also commented that “GMA’s walk-out scheme, after the House has decided to finally put an end to the Ombudsman mistreatment of the cases filed under her regime for 6 years against public officials or employees of the government and the failure to enforce administrative, civil and criminal liability in every case where the evidence warrants, only screams the impossible government tactics she handled to smoothly escape from.”
“Obviously, GMA is as guilty as Gutierrez,” he added.
“It is only evident that GMA is no doubt accountable and that the Ombudsman has been trying to prove not,” Perdigon concluded. ###
