In today’s episode of Pamahaw Espesyal, the morning television program of ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao, CEGP Vice President for Mindanao Paul Randy Gumanao and CEGP National Media Officer Pauline Gidget Estella discussed the guild’s 80 years of historical involvement and the upcoming national student press convention (NSPC).
Gumanao said during the interview that the guild aims to promote campus press freedom and at the same time maintain the publications’ involvement in issues outside the school. CEGP gives journalism skills trainings, socio-political discussions, basic masses integrations and holds conventions such as the annual NSPC, he added.
Estella said that the 80 years of CEGP are characterized by active participation in the struggle amid social dilemmas like poverty.
This year’s NPSC, which will be the 71st, is set to be held in Initao, Misamis Oriental.
Estella said the guild also campaigns against human rights violations, citing the case of Benjaline Hernandez, former CEGP vice president for Mindanao. Hernandez was killed by members of the military nine years ago.
