On PNoy vowing justice for Maguindanao massacre victims: Indeed, as Justice Secretary Leila de Lima put it, this is the “litmus test” of the justice system. But more so than that, this trial will test the mettle of PNoy’s administration to seek justice for the victims and see that the guilty – especially the big fish(es) – be put behind bars.
Furthermore, just as it is with the supposed trial of former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez, the Ampatuan trial will serve as the precursor for the current administration to go after Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, her family and her cohorts for the atrocities they have committed for the past decade.
With PNoy’s first year being more of a whimper than the bang that the people expect it to be, this trial is of utmost importance in the current administration’s to-do list. The families of the victims are waiting, the media community is waiting, and the people are waiting. Let this be the litmus test not only of the justice system, but of how far PNoy’s administration can go in pursuing the “daang matuwid.”
