President Noynoy Aquino: Enemy of the press

Noynoy Aquino

First, the Cybercrime Prevention Act, which penalizes sharing and liking of Facebook posts, gives the DOJ the license to close down websites without due process and ultimately suppresses freedom of speech. Then the Freedom of Information Bill, 14 years in the making, was killed in the 15th Congress. And now, Pres. Aquino expresses support for the Right of Reply Bill, which when signed into law, could close down newspapers for failing to publish replies. Honestly, Mr. President, do you know the meaning of “freedom of expression”? Of “human rights”? Do you even read the bills carefully before issuing a statement? Do you read the bills at all? Or do you deliberately miss the point? – Pauline Gidget Estella, CEGP National President
